Changelog
Release changes based on version tags, newest first.
Each entry describes changes since the previous version.
v0.5.0 — compared with v0.4.0
Added
- Queue filtering: find entries by title or channel in the side panel and in-page queue, then play a matching entry directly.
- In-page queue controls: manage shuffle, repeat, tidy, clear, and individual entries from YouTube watch pages; drag to reorder, inspect duration and status, and open Settings or Analytics from the queue menu. An empty-state prompt explains how to add videos.
- Custom side-panel themes: choose System, Light, Dark, or Midnight, or define a theme with JSON colors and optional CSS.
- Local watch analytics: optionally record playback history on this device and review viewing time, channels, formats, sessions, and searchable history. Configure value tags and retention, delete or export data, and optionally load channel images.
Improved
- Settings navigation: search settings and jump between Playback, Queue, Appearance, and Analytics sections.
- In-page queue layout: keep the queue mounted as YouTube changes the page layout.
v0.4.0 — compared with v0.3.0
Added
- Rule-based chapter skipping: enable Skip matching chapters in Options to automatically seek past matching labeled chapters in the assigned player tab. Skipping is off by default.
- Chapter rules: match chapter-title text using case-insensitive substrings, optionally limited to a channel-name substring. Both fields must match when a channel is specified; any enabled matching rule can trigger a skip. Rules can be added, edited, enabled, disabled, or removed in Options.
- Skip notifications: each skipped chapter shows a brief in-page toast with its title. Nearby skips replace the current toast instead of stacking notifications.
Chapter skipping uses visible player chapter markers, with serialized page data as a fallback. Videos without valid chapter boundaries continue normally. The feature targets labeled chapters; it pauses while YouTube exposes an active ad state and is not intended to skip standalone YouTube ads. See Chapter skipping for details.
Improved
- Side-panel layout: the toolbar wraps at narrow widths, button labels stay on one line, and video text fits within its column. At the narrowest widths, metadata is truncated and item action buttons stack vertically.
Maintenance
- Added chapter-skipping documentation, a manual testing checklist, and feature specifications for chapter skipping and notifications.
- Added the temporary directory to
.gitignoreand updated the extension manifest version to0.4.0.
v0.3.0 — compared with v0.2.0
Added
- New-video placement: choose Next or Last position in Options. Last position is the default; Next appends when there is no current queue item.
- Queue item actions: right-click an entry in the side panel to move it next, to the top, or to the bottom, or display its video link for manual copying. Moving an entry preserves its playback status.
- Documentation site: added searchable documentation with overview, installation, and feature pages, plus Docker tooling for local development.
v0.2.0 — compared with v0.1.0
Added
- Duplicate detection: videos already in the queue are ignored, with feedback in the thumbnail button, side panel, or browser notification depending on how they were added.
- Options page: configure the played-status threshold, which defaults to 100%, and optional video-length lookup, which is enabled by default.
- Video lengths: the side panel displays total video length when available. Length lookup runs after adding a video so it does not delay the add action.
- Replay played entries: use Mark as pending from a played entry’s side-panel context menu.
- Playback controls: added Add current to the side panel, a persistent Play next control to the in-page queue panel, and Skip to next in the player after the current video reaches the played threshold.
Improved
- Automatic queue advancement now waits for the native video end rather than cutting off the final half-second. Reaching the played threshold marks the entry played without advancing playback.
- Starting a different queue entry leaves an interrupted video pending instead of marking it played.
Maintenance
- Added automated release packaging with version-tag validation.
v0.1.0 — initial release
Added
- Persistent cross-tab queue: collect videos through thumbnail hover buttons, video-link and watch-page context menus, or the keyboard shortcut.
- Native YouTube playback: one designated player tab advances through the queue automatically, with support for Shorts and fallback to a full page load when in-page navigation fails.
- Queue controls: reorder, play, remove, tidy, or clear entries in the side panel; use shuffle and repeat modes; see now-playing, up-next, and pending-count badges.
- In-page queue panel: view the queue in the watch-page sidebar with theme matching and a remembered collapse state.
- Playback resilience: skip unplayable videos, ignore detected ad endings, and dismiss idle playback prompts after user inactivity. Manual navigation away from the queued video disengages playback monitoring.
- Extension packaging: included extension icons, a packaging script, feature documentation, and a manual testing checklist.
